BLOOD DRIVE
If you are
reading this before 5:45 p.m. on Friday, September 3rd,
there's still time to help with our quarterly Blood Drive!
The tele-
phone committee of Jan Jensen, Dave Meyer, and "Count"
Esford
spent a little over 2 hours on August 30th along with Biz Bauer
from the Red
Cross calling potential donors. Our Goal for this
Drive is 50 units!! Our Volunteers include Julie
Witthoeft and
President Ryan handling Registration; Marion
Kuebler as Donor
Director for the entire day!; Hank
Hoffman and Marv Howell as
Escort/Unit Aides; and, Hugh Winnell
and Brad Foster (sampling
the cookies) working the Canteen. The cookies, of course,
have
been baked with love by Marion Kuebler - how do we thank her
for all that she does?
BOARD MEETING
The final regular meeting of the 2009-2010 Board of Directors is
scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 9th.
President
Ryan will host the meeting at the News-Review office,
319 State
St. beginning at 12:00 Noon. There will be several key issues dis-
cussed by the Board as the club
prepares for the new Kiwanis year.
ALL Officers, Directors, and Service Committee Chairs are urged
to attend.
INTER-CLUB SCHEDULE
For September Rick Neumann and Hank Hoffman are arranging
our two inter-club visits.
Rick is planning a trip to Indian River for
a Monday luncheon visit (date to be announced);
and, Hank will be
heading to Rogers City on September 16th for lunch at the
Lighthouse
Restaurant. Joining Hank will be Elson Carmein,
Hugh Winnell, and Brad Foster. This visit will also complete One
Round Robin of inter-clubs for the year.
OFFICER INSTALLATION
The Installation of the Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairs
for the 2010-2011 Kiwanis Year will take place during
this year's
Installation Banquet. The Kiwanis Club of Little Traverse Bay is
the "go to" group for
planning this year - it will be their regular
meeting for the week. Plans, as I have them so far, call for the
meeting to be held at the Winter Sports Park with "steaks on the
grill (one more grill needed)" and a dish-to-pass.
Wednesday,
September 29th is the date for this kick-off to the new year. Watch
coming issues of News
& Views for additional details.
BRIDGE WALK
On Monday, September 6, 2010 (Labor Day), Governor-designate
William "Bill" Gohier will be walking across
the Mackinac Bridge
in the annual Labor Day walk. Kiwanians, family & friends, are
invited to join Bill
and help launch his "Share Your Kiwanis
Spirit" campaign. Bill will be leaving at 8:30 a.m. from the
Vindel
Motel, 223 W. Central Ave, Mackinaw City to walk two blocks to
the bus. The cost of the bus is $5.
He will begin his walk immed-
iately upon reaching St. Ignace and return to the motel where water
will be available
for thirsty Kiwanians and family members. You
can email Bill at wgohier@comcast.net to give him a head count
or a word of encouragement. Lt. Governor Dave Garland encour-
ages all Kiwanians
to join the walk.
THIS WEEK - September 7, 2010
Secretary Designate Julie Witthoeft will be Program Chair for
today's meeting. She
has invited Carlin Smith from the Chamber
of Commerce to be our guest speaker. Carlin's topic will be the
United
Way Drive for Emmet County.
NEXT WEEK - Sept 14th
Todd Winnell is scheduled to be Program Chairman for this
week's meeting. Unless
I miss my guess, I'd say we'll probably
be treated to "Appalachian Adventures with the Winnell Family,
Part
Deux".
LAST WEEK
Our thanks to Mr.
Jack Harris, philanthropist extraordinaire, for
the program at last week's meeting. We also thank the folks at
N.C.M.C. for the video chronicling the donation of twelve out-
standing sculptures to the campus at the college.
Our thanks also
to Ken Winter for arranging the program.
NEW PROGRAM LIST
President-Elect Designate Marion Kuebler
has completed the
appointing of Weekly Program Chairs for the 2010-2011 Kiwanis

this bulletin in "paper" format, the list
is included - for those receiving the "electronic" version,
you can
access the list on our web-site by clicking the "Program Chairs"

of announcing the upcoming programs in future issue of News &
Views.

& Adventure Series Chairman David Jones will be circul-

Petoskey News-Review this
week! Now the "thank-you's": to Jan Jensen, Advertising Chair,
for her dedication to bugging members of the Sales Team; to all
the members of the Sales Team for making contacts, especially
Hank Hoffman, who brought
in 3 or 4 new advertisers; and, to
Dave Farley for "burning the midnight oils"
and getting the
finished product to the printer - end result: over $13,000 gross
