Vol. 88, No. 23
March 9, 2010
THIS WEEK Mar 9, 2010
Hugh Winnell will be Program Chairman for today's meeting. Our
guest speaker will
be former (and prospective) member Hank
Hoffman. Hank is now a consultant for Wolverine Power and will
be
talking about his "specialty" - Energy!
NEXT
WEEK Mar 16th
Rick Neumann will be our Program Chairman for this
week's
meeting. Our program will feature representative(s) from the High
School Band Boosters, speaking about
the current project of
replacing the band uniforms worn by the Marching Northmen.
LAST WEEK
WOW !
Kudos to Membership Growth Chair Marion Kuebler for the
fan-
tastic job in lining up our Bring-A-Guest meeting. We had ten
(10) prospective new members join us for
our luncheon. Our
thanks also to the Committee/Project Chairs for outlining some of
the many projects our
club undertakes.
FOLLOW-UPS
Vice President
Marion requests that each member who brought a
guest to last week's meeting follows up to
make sure that these
individuals have all their questions about Kiwanis answered. If
any are in need of assistance
with the follow-up, Marion offers her
help - just give her a call. Her goal is to
gain 5-7 new members out
of the ten guests.
PROGRAM
SUGGESTIONS
Past President Cameron offers a couple of ideas for those who
might be "struggling" to arrange a program/speaker:
the Robert Emmet Society provides
an annual scholarship to
Ireland - you can contact George Colburn at N.C.M.C.
the North
Central Michigan College Foundation is also inter-
ested in providing an update on what's new - contact person is
Sean Pollian at the college.
FISH/CHICKEN DINNER
The co-Chairs of this year's Fish/Chicken Dinner met with Mark
Smith of the High School's Culinary Food Program
this past week
and set Wednesday, April 28th as the date for this year's event.
The
Dinner has been moved to alleviate the "competition" of Len-
ten dinners as well as possible conflicts with
usage of the school
facilities brought on by March Madness. We again plan to provide
baked and fried fish
along with roasted chicken. New this year,
will be the availability of Bar-b-q Chicken.
The balance of the
menu will include red-skin potatoes, cole slaw, rolls, beverage, and
dessert. Watch for
tickets to be available in the near future. While
we don't force anyone to "buy" tickets, we encourage
each mem-
ber to sell at least ten (10) tickets.

SPRING
DIVISIONAL MEETING
The 2010 edition of the Division 22 Spring Divisional will take
place on Saturday,
April 17, 2010, in the Eagles Lodge in Gaylord.
One significant change will be that this will
be a LUNCHEON
MEETING. Registration and Social Hour will be from 11:00 to
11:50 a.m. followed by the Division
Caucus from 11:50 to Noon.
The election of a Lt. Governor, Lt. Governor-Elect, and a new
Trustee of the Kiwanis
of Michigan Foundation will take place
during this caucus. Lunch will feature Roast Beef, Oven Roast
Chicken,
mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans almondine, salad
and dressing, rolls, butter, and beverage - all for $18.00
per person.
Reservations must be turned in no later than April 13th. Our Board
will again decide on whether
or not to pick-up-the-tab for members
attending. This is the Official Visit of District Governor Joan Van-
Arsdalen
and her entourage of District Officers and Committee
Chairs to our Division.
KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIP
The 2010 Kiwanis Scholarship Committee will be spearheaded by
Julie Witthoeft. The groundwork is already underway which will
get applications
in the hands of high school seniors. Completed
applications will be due by mid April after which time, an inter-
view committee will meet with the candidates to determine the
winner(s). At this point, we are planning at least
one scholarship
of $1,000 - additional awards will be determined after we've made
a decision on a Fish/Chicken Dinner
fund raiser.
BOARD MEETING RESULTS
Your Board
of Directors met this past week. Here are the results
of that meeting:
heard a report
from Jordan Dutcher on the progress of our new
Flag Project - Kiwanians will start going
door-to-door later this
month to "sell" the first 150 flag sets;
appointed the
Nominating Committee (Cameron Brunet-Koch,
Chair; D.J., Ted Teller, Bob Esford,
and one member yet-to-be-
named) to prepare a slate of candidates for this year's Election.
The Board also voted
in favor of splitting the offices of Secretary
and Treasurer. This committee therefore will be nominating one
President (Jim Ehrnst); one President-Elect (Marion
Kuebler); one
or more candidates for Vice President; one or more for Treasurer;
and,
at least two for Director. The office of Secretary will remain
an appointed position.
agreed to assist our Builders Club with a donation of up to $150
to purchase materials for their "Blanket Project";
authorized the continuation of looking into a pictorial directory
of our club membership;
approved the Treasurer's Report showing a modest balance in
both of our accounts; and,
ordered the payment of our outstanding bills.
