INTER-CLUB NEWS

The first of our two inter-club visits for the month of August has been completed. Inter-club Chairman Hugh Winnell was joined by Kim Jones, Marion Kuebler, and Brad Foster for a visit to the Kiwanis Club of Harbor Springs on August 18th. One more member is needed for a visit to the Little Traverse Bay club on Wednes-day, August 25th. So far, Secretary Designate Julie Witthoeft, Ken Winter, and President Ryan are on the list to attend. This is a 7:00 a.m. Breakfast Meeting at J.W. Filmore's. Huey is planning a trip to Rogers City during the month of September. It will be on a Thursday, for lunch, and will complete a Round Robin of inter-clubs for the year.

BLOOD DRIVE

Bob "Count Dracula" Esford is looking for a few more Kiwanians to assist with the September 3rd Blood Drive at the Red Cross Center on Mitchell Park Drive. The telephoning of potential donors will take place on Monday, August 30th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Jan Jensen will be assisting but two more members are need-ed. For the Drive: Julie Witthoeft and President Ryan will handle the Registration; Marion Kuebler will be our Donor Director for the entire afternoon; Dave Farley is scheduled to be Escort/Unit Aide for the first shift; and, Hugh Winnell and Brad Foster will "sample" the cookies (handle the Canteen) for the Drive. The sign-up sheet will circulate again at this week's meeting.

ADS NEEDED !!!

Tabloid Layout Chairman Dave Farley reports that we have just about one-half of the ads needed to fill this year's Travelogue Tabloid. He is ready to start the layout process and is anxious to hear from the Sales Team on more ads. Camera-ready copy (or duplicating last year's ad) is needed A.S.A.P. Advertising Sales Chair Jan Jensen has been calling to encourage the salespeople to get their information turned in. The deadline is fast approaching for getting the finished product to the printer. Our goal is to publish this year's Tabloid during the first week of September.

THE COMING SEASON

The Fifty-Ninth Season of Travel & Adventure is set to begin. Travel & Adventure Committee Chairman D.J. has been busy, working behind the scenes to get the Series lined up. Here's the schedule for the 2010-11 Season of Travel & Adventure:

"A Canal Adventure in England, Scotland & Wales" by Fran & Brooke Reidelberger on October 28, 2010;

Ted Teller will be Program Chairman for today's meeting. Our guest speaker will be Past Lt. Governor Ed Buday from the Kiwanis Club of Charlevoix. Ed will present information on new-est member of the Kiwanis-family - AKTION CLUBS.

NEXT WEEK - Aug 31st

AT N.C.M.C. LIBRARY/CONFERENCE CENTER

Ken Winter will be Program Chairman for this week's meeting. Our guest speaker will be Mr. Jack Harris, who has donated twelve sculptures to the college. A video presentation will be included in the presentation.

LAST WEEK

Our thanks to Sean Pollion, Director of the NCMC Foundation for the program at last week's meeting. Sean explained the next BIG step for our college which is scheduled to break ground next spring. A new 23,300 square-foot building and the renovation of the current science laboratories providing space for nursing and allied health labs as well as general-purpose classrooms. Our thanks also to Cameron Brunet-Koch for arranging the program and to Marion Kuebler for introducing the speaker.

OFFICER INSTALLATION

Plans are being completed for the annual Installation Banquet for the 2010-11 Officers and Directors. The Kiwanis Club of Little Traverse Bay will be hosting this year's soiree which will take place at the Winter Sports Park on Wednesday, September 29th! Other details will be forthcoming either thru Vice President Marion Kuebler or the participants in this week's visit to the L.T.B. club.

COMMITTEE AND PROGRAM CHAIRS

With only a hand-full of weeks left in this administrative year, the naming of Committee Chairs as well as individual weekly Program Chairs is of utmost importance. President Designate Jim Ehrnst is making contacts to line up Chairs for the various Service and Administrative Committees which guide and direct our club. Marion, President-Elect Designate & overall Program Chairperson, Kuebler is circulating a sign-up sheet at our weekly meetings to allow members to choose the week (or weeks) they'd be willing to line up a club meeting program. Those not volunteering will be assign-ed one or more weeks. All of these appointments need to be made by early September to allow time for training and orientation.

BRIDGE WALK

On Monday, September 6, 2010 (Labor Day), Governor-designate William "Bill" Gohier will be walking across the Mackinac Bridge in the annual Labor Day walk. Kiwanians, family & friends, are invited to join Bill and help launch his "Share Your Kiwanis Spirit" campaign. Bill will be leaving at 8:30 a.m. from the Vindel Motel, 223 W. Central Ave, Mackinaw City to walk two blocks to the bus. The cost of the bus is $5. He will begin his walk immediately upon reaching St. Ignace and return to the motel where water will be available for thirsty Kiwanians and family members. You can email Bill at wgohier@comcast.net to give him a head count or a word of encouragement. Lt. Governor Dave Garland encourages all Kiwanians to join the walk.
