LAST WEEK
Our thanks to Past Lt. Governor Ed Buday, Suzanne Muma, and two members of the Charlevoix Aktion Club for the program at last week's meeting. They presented us with the opportunity to join in sponsoring a "satellite" of the Charlevoix Aktion Club with a group meeting here in Petoskey. Our Board of Directors will fur-ther discuss the matter at their upcoming meeting. Our thanks also to Ted Teller for arranging the program.
BLOOD DRIVE
Bob "Count Dracula" Esford is looking for a few more Kiwanians to assist with the September 3rd Blood Drive at the Red Cross Center on Mitchell Park Drive. The telephoning of potential donors will take place on Monday, August 30th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Jan Jensen will be assisting but two more members are need-ed. For the Drive: Julie Witthoeft and President Ryan will handle the Registration; Marion Kuebler will be our Donor Director for the entire afternoon; Dave Farley is scheduled to be Escort/Unit Aide for the first shift; and, Hugh Winnell and Brad Foster will "sample" the cookies (handle the Canteen) for the Drive. COMMITTEE AND PROGRAM CHAIRS
With only a hand-full of weeks left in this administrative year, the naming of Committee Chairs as well as individual weekly Program Chairs is of utmost importance. President Designate Jim Ehrnst is making contacts to line up Chairs for the various Service and Ad-ministrative Committees which guide and direct our club. Marion, President-Elect Designate & overall Program Chairperson, Kuebler is circulating a sign-up sheet at our weekly meetings to allow members to choose the week (or weeks) they'd be willing to line up a club meeting program. Those not volunteering will be assign-ed one or more weeks. All of these appointments need to be made by early September to allow time for training and orientation.
OFFICER INSTALLATION
Plans are being completed for the annual Installation Banquet for the 2010-11 Officers and Directors. The Kiwanis Club of Little Traverse Bay will be hosting this year's soiree which will take place at the Winter Sports Park on Wednesday, September 29th! Other details will be forthcoming either thru Vice President Marion Kuebler or the participants in this week's visit to the L.T.B. club.
BRIDGE WALK
On Monday, September 6, 2010 (Labor Day), Governor-designate William "Bill" Gohier will be walking across the Mackinac Bridge in the annual Labor Day walk. Kiwanians, family & friends, are invited to join Bill and help launch his "Share Your Kiwanis Spirit" campaign. Bill will be leaving at 8:30 a.m. from the Vindel Motel, 223 W. Central Ave, Mackinaw City to walk two blocks to the bus. The cost of the bus is $5. He will begin his walk immediately upon reaching St. Ignace and return to the motel where water will be available for thirsty Kiwanians and family members. You can email Bill at wgohier@comcast.net to give him a head count or a word of encouragement. Lt. Governor Dave Garland encourages all Kiwanians to join the walk.
INTER-CLUB SUCCESSFUL
Thanks to Secretary Designate Julie Witthoeft, President Ryan Bentley, Chris Cerrudo, and Ken Winter, the second of our two inter-club visits for the month of August has been completed. The foursome visited the Kiwanis Club of Little Traverse Bay on Wednesday, August 25th. For September - Rick Neumann and Hank Hoffman are arranging our two inter-club visits. Rick is planning a trip to Indian River for a Monday luncheon visit (date to be announced); and, Hank will be heading to Rogers City on September 16th for lunch at the Lighthouse Restaurant. Joining Hank will be Elson Carmein, Hugh Winnell, and Brad Foster. This visit will also complete One Round Robin of inter-clubs for the year.
GOING TO PRESS...
The 2010-2011 Edition of the Kiwanis World Travel & Adventure Series tabloid is scheduled to "go to press" by the end of this week - September 3rd. Dave Farley will be "burning the midnight oil" to get the layout done. Advertising Chair Jan Jensen has been making call after call to our Sales Team to flesh-out the ads in this year's tabloid. Our club is deeply indebted to the efforts of these two Kiwanians - as well as the members of the Sales Team - who have once again worked diligently to make our club's #1 fund raiser a success. The "finished product" is scheduled to be inserted in the September 9th edition of the Petoskey News-Review.
