INTER-CLUBS COMPLETED
Kudos to our merry band of inter-clubbers who made the trek to Newberry on Thursday (7/15) to complete the second of our two inter-clubs for the month of July. Making the trip were Inter-club Chairman Hugh Winnell, Brad Foster, Hank Hoffman and Elson Carmein. Hank was the only one of the four to be at our meeting last Tuesday - gee, did the other's get left above the bridge???
A NEW MAJOR EMPHASIS
The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus will eliminate MNT, a disease that kills one baby every nine minutes. In partnership with UNICEF, we are targeting the poorest, most underserved women and children in the world, and paving the way for other interventions that will boost maternal health and child survival. Hand-in-hand, Kiwanis and UNICEF will once again change the world.
Kiwanis successfully completed its first global campaign for children by virtually eliminating iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). Kiwanis raised more than US$100 million, which today is at work in more than 103 nations. The number of households estimated to be consuming iodized salt has jumped from 20 percent in 1990 to more than 70 percent, and the effort has been heralded as one of the most successful health initiatives in the world. The announcement was made at the Las Vegas Convention.
TRAVELOGUE TABLOID
What do Travelogue Tabloid Advertising Chair Jan Jensen and the U.S. Marines have in common? They're both looking for a few good (individuals)! Jan is looking for about four more members of our club to help make follow-up calls for this year's travelogue tabloid. If you are willing to help with this MAJOR fund raising project, give her a call (347-7353) or meet with her at our next meeting. "Time" is of the essence; we only have about two weeks to get these follow-up calls made! The "layout committee" will need a few days to get everything set up before the finished product is sent to the printer. Let's "get 'er done"!
WHAT'S NEXT?
President Designate Jim Ehrnst and President-Elect Designate Marion Kuebler completed their Club Leadership Education last Saturday and are anxious to get started on a new Kiwanis Year. The first item on their agenda is going to be the appointing of Committee Chairs and the lining up of weekly Program Chairs for the year. These assignments should be completed by mid-August to allow time for "proper training" of Committee Chairs. Jim will want to schedule his President's Leadership Conference to meet with his Board and Committee Chairs in early September. This meeting will line up the goals and objectives for the coming year.
PROGRAM CHAIRS
The following Kiwanians are scheduled to arrange club meeting programs on the dates indicated:

THIS WEEK - July 27, 2010

NEXT WEEK - Aug 3rd
David Meyer will be Program Chairman for this week's meeting and will introduce the other member of the Meyer family, brother Bill. Bill is the Chapter Coordinator for the local Young Eagles, part of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
LAST WEEK
Our thanks to DJ, Fr. Greg Brown, and Mrs. Brown for sharing their recent mission trip to Nicaragua with us at last week's meet-ing. The three were part of a group that took part in "changing the world one child and one community at a time" by assisting resid-ents with the planting of trees to help secure the soil in very hilly areas and to become more self-sufficient. Our thanks also to "T", DJ's bride, for helping to develop the video presentation.
INDUCTION ON TAP
The induction of our newest member, Dr. Charlene Sweeney, is scheduled to take place during this week's meeting. Join us for the meeting and help welcome Charlene to our club.
BOARD MEETING
The regular monthly meeting of our Board of Directors for the month of August will take place on Thursday, August 5th. President Ryan Bentley will host the meeting in the offices of the Petoskey News-Review (319 State St.). The starting time will be 12:00 Noon - and ALL Officers, Directors, and Service Committee Chairs are invited and urged to attend. Prompt arrival will allow for proper consideration of all Agenda items.
STARS & STRIPES FLAG PROJECT
There's still time to sell more Flags in our newest fund raiser before the Labor Day holiday. Two flag-waving holidays remain in this year's schedule (Labor Day thru 9/11 and Veteran's Day). The price for the remainder of this year has been reduced to $20. What a great way to show your patriotism! Sign-up forms are available from Project Chair Jordan Dutcher.
GOVERNOR'S MEMBERSHIP TROPHY
Thanks to the "prodding" of Membership Growth Chair Marion Kuebler, our club is in the running for this year's Governor's Membership Trophy. We currently (May 31) show a Net Gain of +5 for the year. Let's keep up the good work!
COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS
President Designate Jim Ehrnst is in the process of appointing Committee Chairs for the coming year - and, President-Elect Des-ignate Marion Kuebler is developing the list of Weekly Program Chairs for the year. We can make these tasks easier by offering to chair a particular committee and/or agree to arrange a club meeting program for a certain date. I'm sure they'd both be happy to hear from you!
